TYPE: Handsome cabanas based on local Belize structures, and
houses that film Director Coppola saw in the Philippines when
he was filming Apocalypse Now.
LOCATION:
Deep in Mountain Pine Ridge Forest Reserve.
ROOMS:
Soaring thatch ceilings, spacious living rooms with tiled
kitchens, screened porches and terraces overlooking the river.
The basic material is Belize mahogany, the thatch is local
fan palm, and the walls are made of bamboo, palmetto and stucco.
Each room has a Japanese-style bath. For furnishings, Coppola
and his wife visited antique stores throughout the Caribbean
and Central America bringing back painted masks from Antigua,
tiles and rugs from Mexico, and fabrics from Guatemala. Queen
bed in the cabanas.
FACILITIES:
Restaurant, bar, laundry service. The main lodge houses the
bar, living room and dining room. A wood burning pizza oven,
cappuccino machines and no mosquitoes.
COMMENTS:
Owned by film director Francis Ford Coppola and featured in
Architectural Digest. The pizza are based on his personal
recipes, much of the produce is grown on the premises (Coppola
recently planted coffee trees), the rest is flown from Napa,
where in addition to producing one of the best wines in California,
he makes his own grappa, olive oil and preserves. ONLY DELUXE
PROPERTY IN THE AREA.
